BRITISH COLUMBIA CHAPTER LEAD/CHAIR WITH CRAC
Title: British Columbia Chapter Lead/Chair
Reporting To: Leadership Team
Major Objectives
The British Columbia Chair/Lead provides on the ground support for educational and networking events in British Columbia, and stakeholder engagement with the clinical research ecosystem in British Columbia (Research Sites, Academic Institutions, Pharmaceutical/Biotech & Life Science companies).
Duties and Responsibilities
The British Columbia Chapter Chair of Clinical Research Association of Canada (CRAC) is elected by the Executive Committee to serve a term of two (2) years. The Chair is expected to contribute in the following specific to events and initiatives in British Columbia: 1) Leadership, 2) Fundraising Strategy and Development; 3) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) 4) Support & Implementation of the Strategic Plan 5) Financial Management 6) Communication, Public Relations and Marketing 7) Patient Engagement and Advocacy
The British Columbia Chapter Chair is fully informed on organizational matters, and leads events and activities in British Columbia that follow CRAC’s Vision, Mission and strategic operational plan. This is a volunteer position. The Chair shall:
LEADERSHIP
- Commits to support Clinical Research Association of Canada’s mission, and vision
- Onboards and leads a volunteer team in British Columbia to conduct events
- Invests time on a monthly basis to participate in the event planning, stakeholder engagement and attends/manages the events.
- Holds quarterly meetings with volunteers to assist in the planning and implementation of educational events & initiatives in British Columbia
FUNDRAISING STRATEGY AND DEVELOPMENT
- Supports the fundraising activities in British Columbia by planning and hosting events
- Offers insight and support to ensure that CRAC is successful in achieving its financial goals through the implementation of the strategic operations plan e.g. fundraising events, education etc.
DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION
- Takes a supportive leadership role for developing a diversity and community outreach plan in British Columbia that engages patient advocacy, listening and speaking to diverse community stakeholders and advocacy groups
- Works with the DEI & Patient Engagement and Advocacy Committee
DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE STRATEGIC PLAN
- Supports the implementation of the strategic plan and provides input into the plan
- Supports and works with the Marketing & Communications Committee and the Education and Certification Committee
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Tracks costs, expenses and money raised through events, donors and sponsors.
- Promotes the organization and membership to British Columbia research community
COMMUNICATION, PUBLIC RELATIONS AND MARKETING
- Takes a supportive leadership role for developing the communication and public relations plan for British Columbia
- Provides input on marketing strategy and templates as required for British Columbia events
- Works with the Marketing Committee to promote British Columbia activities
PATIENT ENGAGEMENT AND ADVOCACY
- Supports initiatives that foster relationships with diverse communities to build trust and awareness about participating in clinical trials.
- Provides input on events and initiatives in British Columbia to put a spotlight and awareness on the importance of diversity in clinical trials and participant engagement strategies e.g. through events, patient advocacy relations
- Develops initiatives to engage with diverse communities in British Columbia, with a particular focus on patient advocacy groups and underrepresented groups, such as the Indigenous populations, Black, Asian, LGBTQ+ community and participants with disabilities.
- Works with the DEI & Patient Engagement and Advocacy Committee
Qualifications & Requirements
Clinical Research Association of Canada (CRAC) is currently seeking applications for an British Columbia Chapter Chairperson. Applicants with leadership experience (particularly non-profit) or community organization experience as well as an interest in the area of clinical research in Canada.
Additionally, it would be an advantage for applicants to have expertise in at least two of the following areas:
- Financial Management/Accounting
- Leadership Skills
- Fundraising
- Grant Writing
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
- Marketing and Communications
- Event Planning and Management
- Patient Advocacy
In addition:
- Strong interpersonal skills and community/stakeholder connections are a definite asset.
- Seeking individuals with diverse and well-rounded skills and experiences
- Candidates from British Columbia only will be considered
- Applicants should be prepared to commit an average of 8 to 12 hours per month of their volunteer time.
Successful candidates will serve for a two-year term starting September/October 2024, with eligibility for extension.
